Cristina Alvarez (Science)
Cristina Alvarez is a wife and homeschool mom of three children. Her true love in education is science. She enjoyed taking many science courses while earning her bachelor degree of science in psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic University. She is now working toward her teaching certification in science. Cristina has a passion for teaching about everything that God has created and sees science as the artwork of God, a mere glimpse of His mind. She is a firm believer that science come from God, and must be viewed with the lens of the Bible. Science may not come easily to everyone, however Cristina doesn’t want for her students to be intimidated. She wants to help them understand more about this beautiful world that our Lord has created.
Brittnye Arthur (English)
Brittnye Arthur graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor’s in Secondary English Education. Since then, she has added Exceptional Student Education and Reading to her teaching certificate along with a certification from the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education. Her interests, in order, include Jesus, family, literature, and writing. Throughout 9 years of teaching experience in both public and private school, she’s discovered that proficiency in reading and writing is instrumental for future success. She enthusiastically helps students hone their literacy skills to equip them for college and beyond. Brittnye lives in Boynton Beach with her husband and four daughters.
Chris Barber (Logic, Old Testament)
Chris Barber, a home-educating father of five, has been practicing law for over 28 years. He holds an undergraduate degree in journalism and a law degree from the University of Kansas. Chris also earned a Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies from Knox Theological Seminary in Fort Lauderdale. He is the co-author of The Story of Joseph and Judah, an in-depth study of the story of Joseph in the book of Genesis. Chris has a passion to teach and to instill in his students a love for learning and a love for God and His Word. Chris has taught Introductory and Intermediate Logic and Old Testament Experience at HEED for over a decade.
Mrs. Teri Betor (ACT/SAT Prep)
HEED is excited to have Teri Better join our faculty in 2018. Teri has provided SAT/ACT classes for students at Westminster Academy in Ft. Lauderdale for over 8 years. Teri’s students consistently report significant improvements in their exam scores. The largest portion of Teri’s students come to her as the result of referrals from parents and/or students who have experienced great success with her. She receives exceptional evaluations from students who report that her teaching strategies and style simplify the test material and provide practical tactics that allow them to achieve significantly higher scores. Teri is convinced that every student is incapable of achieving significant improvement in his or her standardized test scores. With passion, experience, and wisdom, she helps even the most doubtful and timid student achieve genuine success. Teri's class will be an excellent complement for students who have previously taken a HEED SAT/ACT class.
Giovana Cavarretta (Spanish, Worldview)
Giovana Cavarretta is a passionate follower of Jesus Christ and a wife and mother of three. She has been blessed to be homeschooling her children since they started preschool. She was born and raised in Lima, Perú and moved to the United States as a teenager. Having experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to learn another language, she desires to help students learn to communicate in Spanish while having fun in the process. Mrs. Cavarretta is an experienced Spanish teacher and has enjoyed teaching Spanish to homeschool students of all ages for the past 10 years. She attended Florida Atlantic University and graduated with Honors with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.
Andrew de Carion (English)
Andrew de Carion has over seven years of experience teaching English from the middle school classroom to the university campus. Receiving his bachelor’s degree in English from Palm Beach Atlantic University, he learned that to pursue Christ is the true goal of Christian education. Andrew also graduated with distinction from the University of South Florida’s master’s degree program in English language and literature, where he taught composition courses at the undergraduate level. He is a husband and a father of two young boys. Having recently taught high school English for the public school system in Florida, Andrew is beginning his Ph.D. in English at the University of Houston.
Catie Frates (Science)
Catie Frates is a dedicated bondservant of Jesus Christ, wife and mother of three. She is an author, Biblical Scientific Creationist, Creation Science Speaker and a High School Science Teacher. She has a BSA in Microbiology and Cell Biology from the University of Florida. Catie and her husband Steve make their home in Naples, FL where they pursue God in the raising of their daughters as well as the management of their ministry. Catie's primary goal is to share the scientific evidence of the Biblical Genesis Account - that, in fact, the scriptures can be taken completely at their word. She is dedicated to the training of God's people in this arena of such important issues. Catie enthusiastically shares this gift of joy and freedom found for her in the scientific evidence that substantiates the inerrancy of God's Word in an entertaining and understandable fashion. It is Catie's particular desire to reach teachers, parents and young people with this information.
Andrea Gardner (English)
Andrea Gardner has a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee Temple University in secondary education with an English proficiency and minors in speech and Bible. Andrea graduated from The King’s Academy in WPB, attended college, taught at Berean Christian School in WPB for six years, home educated her three children through twelfth grade, and has in recent years taught at HEED. Teaching the Bible to adult ladies at church and conducting a neighborhood Bible club at her home since 2000, Andrea finds the greatest joy in sharing God’s truth. Singing, performing, and writing are her passions as well. Working with teens is such a fulfilling and eternally significant ministry! With the home going of her pastor/teacher husband at thirty-six, Andrea has truly been blessed to see her faithful Savior take such good care of her and her now adult children all of which have also majored in education.
Seth Lowrey (Computer)
Seth Lowrey received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Mississippi in 1991 and graduated with honors. He has worked as a software developer/programmer for over 25 years and has worked for major technology corporations such as EDS, Computer Task Group, and GE. Since 2001, Seth has managed and programmed software for his own company, Sent Software, which develops programs for the State of Tennessee, local police departments, logistics, healthcare, and homeschool groups. His passion for teaching is apparent as he consistently teaches homeschool classes for Microsoft Office and Google Docs, mentors high school students and college interns for computer programming, and has most recently created an online mentorship program, the Institute of Software Developers (institutesoftdev.com). Seth and his wife, Lisa, have homeschooled their six children since their oldest, now a college senior, was in kindergarten.
Michelle Nowack (Math)
Michelle Nowack graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering. For the past 14 years she has provided engineering services & project management for multiple companies both private and government. During this time, she has always loved tutoring in math. She has helped students from elementary school to college succeed in their math classes, specializing in helping those with whom math does not come easily. Currently, Michelle lives in Raleigh, NC with her husband and two cats, where she enjoys reading, natural health, traveling, and studying God's Word.
Jesus Villalobos (History)
Jesus studied Mechanical Engineering at Florida Atlantic University. Jesus was born and raised in South Florida after his parents moved here from Lima, Peru in 1985. He serves as a Youth Pastor in his home church, Iglesia Hispana of Boca Raton, for over 15 years. In 2013 he married his wife, Melisa, and together they have had the privilege of traveling to Peru and assisting Missionaries to preach the gospel to underdeveloped regions and schools. Through his travels around the world, he developed a deep passion for history. His goal is to excite the future generations to study and experience history in our country and around the world in order to reach others for Christ. Jesus and Melisa have two children, Jonathan and Mia. He has a a passion for his two favorite hobbies: photography and soccer!
Silvia Villalobos (Math)
Silvia Villalobos has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Florida Atlantic University and taught high school math at Spanish River High School in Boca Raton for five years. The Lord has blessed her and her husband with four children and five grandchildren. Silvia serves at her church teaching the women’s Bible study and she has developed the children’s curriculum for ages 4 to 10. She has a passion for teaching the scriptures and mathematics and she wants her students to enjoy learning and to see how everything (including math) points to our Creator and Savior.
